Flip-Pod™
The Carter Flip-Pod® Vacuum Piece Part Holding System utilizes vacuum power to hold wood, plastic or non-ferrous metal parts for machine processing. That sounds conventional. But this new system offers very special advantages over previous methods. The grid of "pods" fitted into the pod panel surface, provide sure control of vacuum in the desired areas without time wasting "spoil boards" or other methods. Adaptable to almost any CNC router equipped with a vacuum pump and table, the Flip-Pod system replaces the more traditional spoil-board with a Flip-Pod panel made of tough UHMW or phenolic material. Into this panel are routed a pattern of circular cavities, each of which can hold a single Flip-Pod. Each Pod can be placed in either the down position (flush with the top of the panel) or the up position (raised approximately 1 1/8 inch above the panel). In the down position, each pod acts as a vacuum switch, preventing airflow through the cavity. In the up position, the pods allow vacuum to act through the cavity and pod to hold the underside of the material being processed. Thus the material is firmly held in a raised position above the router table surface making it easy to perform edge boring or edge shaping. |
